I seem to have started to stir a hornet’s nest of Amberprice fans.
Look. I understand. I too have played BtS. I too have truly enjoyed watching Chloe and Rachel together. Hell, I was so angry with what Rachel’s father pulled that I am all set to set fire to his little nuclear family and to hell with the consequences - think of it as the Sacrifice Arcadia Bay option for Rachel. (Besides, Rachel was described as a human lie detector and always gets the two-truths-and-a-lie quiz correct! I just ran it with three lies. She got every single one. I am fairly certain even if you lie twice and tell one truth she still gets it. So there’s no way Chloe could lie about Sera to her. Rachel would know.)
Did Rachel and Chloe love each other? Yes! Did Rachel help Chloe when she was at her lowest? Definitely! Did Chloe save Rachel’s life in the junkyard? You hella bet she did! Does that mean their love was going to last? Not at all.
Rachel met Chloe when she was 15 years old and Chloe was 16. Now I might be around William’s age but I do remember relationships in high school and how they would burn bright… but not always last. And very few of them lasted outside of high school - as I witnessed with one such breakdown during the Five Year Reunion.
We definitely know that Rachel cheated on Chloe with both Frank Bowers and with Mark Jefferson. You don’t do that with someone you are that in love with. Yeah, Chloe still was clinging to Rachel… but Rachel was moving on. She liked Chloe but she wasn’t in love with her at that point. She was moving on.
This is why Rachel’s death hit Chloe so hard. Chloe convinced herself Rachel had abandoned her, had run off. She didn’t assume Rachel had been killed. If Rachel had loved Chloe that much and Chloe had no doubts? Then why not suspect foul play? Why not say “she wouldn’t abandon me, but there’s some real assholes in this town and I bet someone killed her?” That thought never passed Chloe’s head. Which is why that revelation had her ready to throw her life away for revenge.
And don’t forget. It was learning Max had been hurt, that Max was suffering after seeing Chloe die… that snapped Chloe out of it. Chloe threw away her revenge, threw away vengeance, she went to the man she detests, David Madsen, all for Max Caulfield. She listened to Max.
Amberprice was a beautiful dream. But you wake up from dreams and they fade until you only remember small snippets.
